Rural Tourism Festival 2024

January 20, 2024

In an effort to raise awareness about tourism, Rangeet Mazuwa hosted its annual rural tourism festival near Maneybhanjang on January 15, 2024. This small hamlet, located just 3km from Maneybhanjang, is home to only 42 houses and has been designated as the first green village in the Darjeeling district.

The primary goal of the festival was to educate villagers about the benefits of promoting tourism and creating opportunities for self-employment. The event aimed to educate the local community about the importance of zero waste practices, as well as to raise awareness about the value of preserving their land. Additionally, the festival sought to encourage locals to consider running homestays as a means of generating income, and to provide training on hospitality to support this endeavor.

By organizing this festival, Rangeet Mazuwa hopes to empower the community to embrace sustainable tourism practices and seize the economic opportunities that tourism can bring. Through education and training, the festival aims to foster a sense of pride and ownership among locals, while also promoting the beauty and cultural richness of the region to visitors.
